Cleanse: Day 19 - Fasting

Chia smoothie from last night

After the last two days of straying from the path and feeling the repercussions, plus the end of the cleanse coming so near, I decided to speed up the detoxing for the next two days.

Dr. Junger suggests that if you fall down on the cleanse, it won’t ruin it entirely.  It’s not great, but it’s not the end of the world.  He also suggests that if you want to speed things back up, you can go on an all-liquid diet the next day.  I decided that since I fell down for two days, I should go all liquid for two days.

So here we go… my smoothie and juice fast.

Day 19

Blueberry smoothie for breakfast.

Energy smoothie for lunch.

Green smoothie for dinner.

Well Being Meter

I feel good – surprise!!  I feel like I am decreasing the puffiness and returning to my pre-cheating state.

I’m extremely surprised at how good I felt walking home 1.5 miles, after not eating very many calories today.  I counted them up:  probably about 350 calories in total.  Lots of nutrients in that, though.  (Plus I am taking food-based multi-vitamins daily.)

There is no way that I would have been able to feel this good having this few calories in the past.  I am most definitely one of those people who ebbs and flows with my meals.  When I am hungry, I generally need to eat or fuzzy-headed crankiness will ensue.  Matt calls this “hangry.” I love that term!

So you can understand how strange it feels to be happy, clear-headed, and strong after such little to eat!

Weight: 127.4 lbs.

  • I’m really looking forward to doing a cleanse in the next month or two. It’s so amazing how good your body feels with LESS calories. I’m like you and get really cranky/moody/fatigued if I don’t eat. And I’m very sensitive to it, too. The last time I did a raw food diet/detox I noticed that I was much less sensitive to when I ate, and I generally felt well!

    Way to go! I’m sure straying from the cleanse for a day or two won’t hurt you much. But it’s kind of cool how you noticed the effects so clearly!

    I am anxiously awaiting my copy of “Clean”. It is due to be delivered on Monday. I was wondering if you could tell me what’s in your green smoothies and your blueberry ones. I thought I could at least start drinking those while I wait for the book… :)

    Thank you sooooooooo much!!! I can’t wait to try this smoothie!!! I’ve put the items on my ingredients list. I’m hoping I can find them at the local grocer–though I have a Whole Foods close by if need be.

    I got the book on Saturday (two days earlier than expected!) and I’ve read almost the entire thing. I’ve significantly reduced coffee, dairy, wheat, eggs, soy, sugar, and processed foods since Friday–eating mostly clean, raw, organic foods (lots of nuts, seeds, and “green leafys”) I’ve also increased my intake of water (with lemon) significantly, and started drinking a teaspoon of Braggs apple cider vinegar with 8 oz of water twice a day. I feel great!

    I’m going to get a skin brush and the Attune probiotic bars (chocolate!), and am looking into Dr. Schultze intestinal 1 and 2 capsules. I have heard great things about his products (herbdoc.com) and when I saw his intestinal 1 mentioned in Clean I was convinced!

    All of this is my attempt at the “elimination diet” in Clean. I’m going to be traveling over the next few months, so I don’t know that I’m quite ready for the full program, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. I love how grounded I feel without the caffeine from my coffee! The bloating after eating has disappeared too! I also tried eating the clove of garlic–yikes! It was intense! Maybe I should have tried it with an apple!!!

    Thanks so much for inspiring me, and for introducing me to this book! I found your blog last week by searching for homemade deodorant and can’t believe the wealth of information I have received since then!

    Your “after” photo looks AMAZING!!! Glowing is definitely the right word!!! Congratulations to you for committing to Clean and making your way through the entire 3 weeks!!! :)
