I just came across this site today, and it looks awesome. Essentially, Window Farms is a non-profit organization in New York that has developed a free, crowd-sourced model for learning about, collaborating on, and developing new ways of gardening at home indoors.
They have a community forum for sharing thoughts, questions and ideas, were you can also create your own blog to catalog your gardening. It looks like their hearts are truly in the right place – both in terms of the environment, and in terms of how gardening can improve social well-being and provide much needed nutrients for little to no money. Something to think about if you live in an urban area – they have downloadable manuals on the site, which are all free.
What a brilliant idea! I have a window that lacks privacy when the blind is open and is really really sunny. maybe I should try one of these window gardens?
There is also the added benefit of improved air quality.
Love these guys, it’s on my To Do list in the next couple of years…I compiled a little list for part of my thesis…some of these links may by interesting to you (some not so much and perhaps a little dry).
I’m glad you guys found it inspiring, too. I have such a small balcony in our new apartment, that I’m thinking this would be fun and absolutely perfect! I might try doing it non-hydroponically first, to see if I can get away with that.
Very Cool! I like that you don’t need to use outdoor space to do this. Anyone can grow a garden!

Thanks for the link. I’m off to check it out.

What a great project! This reminds me that I wanted to try growing some micro greens or some sprouts this winter. Maybe I’ll get that set up today.

I think this is the coolest thing I’ve seen you post, Melinda!
Very interesting site! Great ideas!
